Ever taken advantage of "lifetime warranty" on Home Depot kitchen faucet?

The Glacier Bay kitchen faucet I got at Home Depot ostensibly has a
"Lifetime Warranty" but the process requires you to send the unit back
to the manufacturer. Assuming the company is still in business at that
point, presumably you're supposed to do without a faucet for however
long it takes for them to send you a new unit.

Curious if anyone here has actually found a warranty like this to be
useful.

I imagine you also have to include the original sales receipt.

Sorta like the warranty for treated wood a few years back where you needed
the receipt, the little tag that was attached to each piece of wood and the
defective product.

Warranties like that are worthless and I don't support the concept by buying
those products if I have a choice.

There are faucets made by honest sellers that only cost a little more.

That is a good one. If lifetime, why is a receipt needed ??

Almost as good as a tool set that cost about $ 5 years ago. Lifetime
warranty. Just send $ 4.95 in for shipping and handling and they will
replace any part of the set that is bad.

I am waiting on the car manufactures to come up with the same deal as most
other places for warranty work. You have to ship the item back to the maker
instead of taking it to the store you bought it from.

Usually a Lifetime Warranty means junk that you are paying three times
what it should cost for the warranty. They know most people will never
try to collect or they didnt jump through all the right hoops to be
able to collect. Also Lifetime Warranty has different meanings from
state to state. I found that out when I tried to get my Radio Shack
Lifetime Warranty speakers replaced.
Lifetime meant 10 years.

Look at the junk they sell on infomercials. The warranty isnt there to
protect the consumer, its there to protect the seller.

Similar experience here. I had both cartridges of a kitchen faucet crack
and called for replacement. about $5 for shipping and got the original
style. Lowes had some similar, but not close enough for about $7 each.

I have a Pegasus kitchen faucet from HD. I actually bought it on Ebay so I
don't have a store receipt.

After some time the little plastic push button that switches the faucet from
spray to stream cracked. I figured that I could not pursue a warranty claim.
I tried to buy an after market spout. I found some that looked similar and
fit perfectly. Oops, the metal had a different finish and SWMBO would have
no part of it. There is an 800 number in the instruction sheet so I called
fully expecting to pay for it.

I gave my name and address and admitted it was more than a year old and I
had no receipt. No problem! The replacement came with a letter. It was not
the right unit, but was the right finish and would fit, The right one was
back-ordered. If I wanted to I could call back in two months for the right
spout. The replacement was a little longer than the original and put the
stream a little too far forward in the sink. After a couple of months I
called back and the right item was back in stock. I asked If they wanted the
other one back and was told to keep it.

Not bad.

About a year later, a small O-ring that fits on the spout and keeps it
snugly in place tore. I thought my local Ace would have a match but it seems
that the original is metric. I called the 800 number again and got the right
sized ring in the mail in a couple of days. Gratis again. Now that is what I
call customer service.

I used to get replacement tool when I bring broken Craftsman one from
Sears. Last time when I took ratchet wrench which fell apart, they did
not give another new one but give me a bag which contained parts for repair.

Well they figure if you got the brains to use a ratchet you probably got the brains to rebuild the ratchet. It's a gear, switch and a couple of springs

Delta sends you parts for free.
That is a lifetime warranty.

cartridges. The stops are on the top, so the cartridge never gets
torque applied through it (jamming the tap closed etc)

Is there a number you can call? Some will send out the new part and then
you send back the defective part after the replacement or repair. I just
did that with a Cuisinart stick blender. The printed paperwork says to
return it with $10. I called, they sent the new item, they did not charge
the $10 and I'll just return the old unit.

Worth a call anyway.

You are correct if that is really the policy. (Even worse if you are not a
DIYer and need two service calls!)

But I have had excellent parts service on a Moen kitchen faucet (sent me
free parts on three occasions), and a Glacier Bay bath sink faucet.

The Glacier Bay sink faucet that failed was installed at least 14 years
before, by the previous owner. I identified the model number from pictures
on their website, then called their 800 number. I didn't know what their
warranty was, and I had no paperwork at all. They referred me to another
company that actually was the supplier for that model, still available,
which sent me a new body casting (which had failed) based only on my phone
call, no receipt required, no charge. I was very happy and sent them a
thank you letter.

I bought an office chair at Office Max several years ago for
about $60 after rebate. It was very comfortable, enough that you
could fall asleep in it. After about three years, the pivot
device that held the seat to the gas shock device started to
crack. I dug out the receipt, verified I still had two years on
the warranty, and called the 800 number.

They insisted I disassemble the entire chair and ship it back to
them (at my expense). Then, *if* they found it was defective,
they would replace it. Obviously, I did no such thing.

I did intend to take it back to Office Max and give the manager
a hard time about it, but I wound up just throwing it out in
frustration; storing a broken chair isn't the most convenient
thing for me.

I bought another chair some time ago from Staples. When I
unboxed it, the plastic knob that adjusts the lumbar support was
broken off. I called the company to get them to send me a
replacement knob. A week later, I came home and found a large box
on the porch. The shipped me the entire backrest! I was unable to
think of a use for the "old" backrest, so I threw it out. Seemed
like a waste.

It depends on the manufacturer of the item.

I had a similar problem with an office chair I had gotten at Sam's club
right around the end of the 5 yr warantee period. I called them,
described the problem, and not only did they send a replacement part for
free, they emailed a set of instructions on how to replace the part.

Just tried to replace a Glacier Bay kitchen faucet at Home Depot where the spout tube broke off at the base. Told me they can't replace because I bought in 2019 and only have until 2020. Told me to call Glacier Bay. Well Home Depot owns Glacier Bay! Nice help there. Bought a different brand.
